Design Guild Mark for Object
It was a proud moment for OPM when the Object Table was awarded the Design Guild Mark in 2019. Designed in collaboration with Product Designer Jonathan Prestwich, Object’s distinctive detail is the stone `Object’ contained within the metal feature at the centre of the table.
We wanted to create an understated opulence of a private members’ club or luxury hotel. Materials were selected to suit traditional and contemporary interiors, with a choice of rich warm textures in wood to complement the satin polished copper, brass or steel and distinctive quartz or marble. The same metal and stone choices used with the matt soft touch surface of Fenix gives a contemporary flavour.
The result is a collection that embodies balance between design principal and superior functionality for the meeting room. It is a reflection of OPM’s commitment to creative design with seamless interface between technology and cable management within furniture and our desire to treat all these aspects in an aesthetic manner. Circular tables show an off-centre stone disc that opens to reveal access to cable retractors, power and data outlets. Rectangular tables are accommodated by sliding the stone Object along the metal containment tray.
The Design Guild Mark is awarded by The Furniture Makers’ Company to drive excellence and raise the profile of British design and innovation. Jonathan presented the tables to a panel of independent judges from the design community who included Helen Berresford of ID:SR, Jeremy Myerson Professor of Design at the Royal College of Art and industrial designer Terence Woodgate.
