It was a proud moment for OPM when the Object table was awarded the Design Guild Mark, created in collaboration with the product designer Jonathan Prestwich.
Object's distinctive detail is the stone “Object” contained within the metal feature at the centre of the table. We wanted to create the understated opulence of a private members’ club or luxury hotel. The materials were selected to suit both traditional and contemporary interiors, and included rich, warm textures in wood that would complement satin-polished copper, brass or steel and distinctive quartz or marble. The same metal and stone choices used with the matt soft-touch surface of Fenix give a contemporary flavour.
The result is a collection that embodies balance between design principle and superior functionality for the meeting room. It is a reflection of OPM’s commitment to produce creative design with a seamless interface between technology and cable management and our desire to keep aesthetics in mind with all these aspects. The Circular tables have an off-centre stone disc that opens to reveal access to cable retractors and power and data outlets. For the Rectangular tables the stone Object slides along a metal containment tray.
The Design Guild Mark is awarded by The Furniture Makers’ Company to drive excellence and raise the profile of British design and innovation. Jonathan presented the tables to a panel of independent judges from the design community who included Helen Berresford of ID:SR, Jeremy Myerson, Professor Emeritus of Design at the Royal College of Art, and the industrial designer Terence Woodgate.
